Building and Remodeling is My Passion

Aug 01, 2014

Most of us get up every day and have to go to work. It’s how we make a living, fulfill our basic needs and support our families. Working people spend a significant amount of time working in their lifetimes. But work doesn’t have to be something we dread. While work is “work” and not “play,” it’s important to me to engage in work that I enjoy versus doing work because I have to. So, after 20 plus years in the home building and remodeling industry, people often ask me if I’ve found the right career for myself. The answer is a resounding, “YES.”

Building Blocks of Being a General Contractor

I knew early on in my career that I wanted to own my own business and landed in the field of construction management. Learning the ropes of this profession I found myself enjoying all aspects of the work. After building my own first home in 1994, I knew this would be a career path I should pursue. Raven Homes, Inc. is a residential home building and remodeling company in the business of helping residential customers see their dreams come true. Every day is different. Project planning, negotiating, applying building codes and regulations, supply and vendor management, financial management and relationship management, are just some of the many facets of working as a general contractor, home builder and remodeler. Even though I depend on my long term relationships with subcontractors for much of the hands-on specialized work, I have found my niche onsite. I love to paint and often find myself with a paint brush in hand, a perfect time for me to do my quiet thinking and business planning.

Our business is built on the building blocks of quality, customer satisfaction and integrity. Our bottom line goal: create happy, satisfied homeowners who remember their positive experiences with Raven Homes years after their projects are complete.

So how do I know that I’m in the right career?

I just feel it! I’m always learning something new, excited to get each and every day started, I love talking about my business with friends and family, and feel positive, invigorated and empowered.

Unfortunately, the recession that began in 2007 hit the housing market hard and I was not able to do what I loved to the extent to which I had grown accustomed to for several years. When the housing market rebounded, it was as if a flame ignited in me and it’s great to be busy and doing again what I love.

My Mantras

One of my favorite expressions: “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” Having come out of the recession on the other side makes me realize how important it is to stand strong when tested. Every bad situation is an opportunity for growth and I see each and every day as a learning opportunity. I have grown through the years, have demonstrated my knowledge and expertise as a general contractor and can confidently say that I am not only competent, but also extremely content, which is a remarkable blend.

Words I live by every day: “When you’re inspired to do great things, great things are possible!

With more than two decades of doing what I love, I have seen so many amazing things happen. I invite you into our home to see if Raven Homes is what you want from your home builder or remodeler. Contact Raven Homes to learn how we can help you make your dreams a reality.
